    FGV Projetos participated as a knowledge partner in the 1st Latin American Regulatory Summit, an event sponsored by Thomson Reuters in São Paulo on the 4th and 5th of November. The meeting discussed the critical intersection of market and regulation in Latin America, bringing together government, regional and international regulatory agencies, specialists in compliance, as well as advisers and professionals from the financial and legal sectors.

    Economy, OECD

    On October 23, FGV Projetos and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) launched the OECD Economic Survey 2013: Brazil – Spurring Productivity and Improving Income Distribution. The event was focused on analyzing the economic progress and challenges from the perspective of the OECD, including policy recommendations for Brazil. The topics addressed in the debate included macroeconomic policy, increased productivity and competitiveness of Brazilian companies, distribution of income and social policies.

    On October 14, FGV Projetos, together with the Rio de Janeiro Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPRJ), held the seminar: The Constitution of the Republic – 25 Years in Effect: A New Constitutional Order. The meeting brought together authorities and specialists to discuss the changes made in Brazilian constitutional law since the promulgation of the Constitution in 1988. Approximately 200 people attended, including scholars, jurists and members of the MPRJ, such as Marfan Martins Vieira, General Attorney for the State of Rio de Janeiro.

    Urban Real Estate Property Tax

    On 8-9 October, FGV Projetos and the Brasília Institute of Public Law (IDP), in partnership with the Lincoln Institute, held a seminar in Brasília on Challenges of the Urban Real Estate Property Tax (IPTU) in Brazil. The event brought together 33 authorities and scholars who debated the role of the IPTU. A total of approximately 300 people attended the seminar, including Mayors, representatives of Ministries and Secretaries of various states.

    FGV discusses budget reform and public management in an event held in Rio

    Why has the budget reform been dragging on for so many years without reaching a satisfactory solution? How can this reform be contemplated when we consider that the resources are all already committed to attending to constitutional rights and other legal rules? Discussing budget reform beyond fiscal adjustments is more than indispensable at the moment.

    FGV Projetos organized the Sustainable Metropolis Forum (Fórum Metrópole Sustentável) in Rio de Janeiro on July 9. The aim of the meeting was to encourage a discussion of the challenges and the possibility of creating a metropolis with a high level of territorial governance, in which spaces can be shared in a sustainable manner.
